A mapping f : U → U is said to have a distortion of at most c, if there exists a constant ν ∈ (0, +∞) such that for all x, y ∈ U ν · d(x, y) ≤ d ( f (x), f (y)) ≤ c · ν · d(x, y). (2) In other words, the mapping f can magnify the relative distances between points not greater than c times. In this paper we consider datasets combining both continuous and nominal data. To represent continuous data we use points from the standard p-dimensional Euclidean metric space (R p , d E ). The nominal part of record is represented as a point at the Hamming metric space H = A1 × · · · × As .

3 Proposed Approach According to divide-and conquer rule, we should aim at solving each complex problem by dividing it into a series of subproblems, each easier to solve than the original task. This strategy can be easily applied in machine learning, where dealing with complex, multi-class datasets is a common practice. The most popular approach is to decompose the original dataset into a number of binary problems [9]. With this approach we obtain locally specialized classifiers that are trained over simplified task.

2 OVR approach with Cr = 0 wrong classification of the sample from the “rest” class. The values of Cr and C1 equal to C1 = N /K , Cr = 1 (8) seems to be the good candidates, where C1 is the penalty for wrong classification of the sample representing the “one” class and Cr is the penalty for wrong classification of the sample representing the “rest” class. N is number of the samples in the data set and K is the number of the classes. It is visible that the proposed classifier will be more eager to wrongly classify the sample representing the “rest” class than the sample representing the “one” class.
