The houses of fabrics rely on the features of the majority and on these of the surf ace. Any swap in floor features impacts a large choice of fabric houses. over the past few years the function of floor phenomena in metallurgy has been the topic of many experiences. floor power, floor stress, the job of surfaces, and comparable difficulties are lower than dialogue within the western international * in addition to within the jap international. t The relation among quantity and floor houses in metals and alloys has been investigated and remains to be below research. fabrics are usually uncovered to environments which switch their actual and chemical features because of a response happening among the fabric floor and the surroundings. The technological know-how and know-how of floor training ro enhance fabric homes have won value over the last decade in lots of elements of the realm. major efforts were centred in particular at the coating of fabric surfaces in reference to the publicity of those fabrics to house en vironment.

The formation of the veins is of importance in connection with the properties of the coating for two reasons. First, the system of cracks, along which corrosive reagents could penetrate to the base metal, is suppressed, and secondly, the veins as it were "reinforce" the coating, thereby increasing its mechanical strength. Comparative tests on the wear resistance of specimens chromium -plated only, and chromium-plating followed by carburizing, showed that the latter had considerably better properties.

No variation was found in the microhardness over the depth of the layers. 42 The carbide layers on titanium and zirconium, produced at temperatures of 900-1000·C for a treatment time of 1-8 hr, were compact, practically without cracks, and well applied to the metal base. The boundary between the carbide layers and metal under aU treatment conditions was relatively even and smooth, which, as in the case of tungsten and molybdenum, is evidence of the approximately identical rate of diffusion of the carbon along the boundary and through the body of the titanium and zirconium grains.

With suitable choice of the carburizing conditions, it is possible ta produce surface strengthening, thereby retaining the possibility of using carburized titanium as constructional material. A study has been made [44] of the carburization of commercial titanium mark VT1 in a vacuum furnace in metal capsules with ground carbon and graphite. 02 mm with a microhardness of 1290 kg/mm 2 was obtained. The layer was well bonded to the base metal. 5 -5'10 ca, propane, or methane. It was found that at 5"/oCa, a solid solution of oxygen in (X-Ti was formed, but there was a TiC skin 10 Il thick.
