How long after 1733 Howell continued as proprietor is not known. He seems to have been an enterprising person, but he was once imprisoned in Newgate for some offense. Howell, John d. 1708, singer. At the coronation of James 11 on 23 April 1685, John Howell marched as one of the Children of the Choir of Westminster. He was sworn a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal (but without fee) on 30 August 1691, as a countertenor. He sang in the St Cecilia's Day celebration on 22 November 1692 and at the Queen's birthday on 30 April 1693 and 30 April 1694.

Twopence-colored prints were published by Dyer of Mr Howell, actor at Covent Garden in 181112, as Robert de Fitzwalter in Magna Charta; and in 1812 W. West issued twopence-colored prints of Howell as the Grand Vizier and William Broadhurst as Selim in Harlequin and Padmanaba. Page 6 Howell, James [fl. 17201733], proprietor. In 1720, according to Warwick Wroth's The London Pleasure Gardens, Belsize House, once the residence of Lord Wotton, was converted by a Welshman named James Howell into a place of public amusement.

A Mr Howard (evidently not Samuel Howard, who was a tenor) sang bass in the Handel Memorial Concerts at Westminster Abbey and the Pantheon in May and June 1784. Howard, Mr [fl. 17871800], actor.
